History/Background: Kylo Ren

Time Spent Across Multiverse:

Kylo Ren arrived in ALASTAIR's employ at an untimely point in his life and was met with several challenges, from being confronted and rejected by his idol, Anakin Skywalker, right down to finding common ground with Rey after several months of conflict. His time in Oska was mostly spent struggling to reconcile not being the biggest bad on the block anymore, while also being forced to emotionally engage with people in ways he had not previously done so. Shortly before returning to his galaxy, Kylo Ren was bitten by the temporal bugs and went through a brief stint as his younger, much more frightened self. He was returned to the dark side by a bug-corrupted Rey, when she jogged a memory of the Supreme Leader.

Development incurred involved a heavy appreciation for allies, and a deep obsession regarding his personal strength in contrast to other Audentes. He was transferred out not long after Rey mortally wounded him in a lightsaber duel while at Perdition's Rest.

His time on another team continued to force him to work with small units that he was not permitted to lead. During that time, a glitch sent him back to his timeline, where he was promptly punished for his failure on Starkiller base. He assisted in the advancement of the First Order, and discovered that he and Rey were Force Bonded (as well as who her parents were). When he returned, he discovered that ALASTAIR had disbanded and was instead offered the chance to join Hathaway. Their mission: to correct multiversal anomalies created by ALASTAIR's activities. In return he was offered an incentive: assistance in tracking down and killing Luke Skywalker.

Kylo Ren reestablished his place on Hathaway much in the same way he had on Audentes. A year and a half away from power left him more amicable to working relationships, which lead him back to Rey, Poe and Finn. He wasted no time in making it very clear that he wasn't there to pick personal fights -- he was there for his incentive, and they could figure out how to deal with it if it bothered them. Fortunately, Rey had already figured out how to coexist peacefully with him, and she made several attempts to coax him into being friendlier toward others without much success.

While Poe and Rey feuded over his presence on the team, Kylo Ren moved in to take advantage of the discord to sow a more firm alliance with her. However, in doing this, Kylo Ren quickly picked up on the fact that Rey had developed compassion and empathy toward him in the same way he had toward her when they had first met on the Finalizer. Over the two years they spent in close quarters, Kylo Ren found himself listening more closely to what Rey had to say to him. In his hunger for understanding, he also found himself opening up more about his insecurities and paranoia, which ultimately caught the attention of several other guildmates.

When confronted by his peers regarding his insecurities and projections, Kylo Ren lashed out defensively and nearly killed at least one of them. This was paid forward by Loki, who brought forth the cursed sword Gram and forced him to confront the lies and corruptions he'd been telling himself for 15 years. It was an extremely traumatic experience that caused him immense emotional and physical pain, leaving him with a healthy dose of fear -- it was no longer possible for him to live under the delusion that he was untouchable, or that he'd never done anything wrong in his life. No longer can he simply play the victim (though he often still tries).

He is consciously aware of Rey's attempts to bring him back to the Light, but continues to resist, believing himself long beyond saving (and also being uncertain if he even wants to be saved). Instead, he continues to engage with his past in small doses -- just enough to operate like a normal human being. His villainous and homicidal tendencies haven't quite bled away, but he's on a calm enough level that he can interact with a population.

Noteworthy Positive Characteristics:
Driven: In spite of the fact that he has failed almost everything he's ever attempted, Kylo Ren very rarely gives up on a task he's set his mind to (most notably, his commitment to the Dark Side). Despite constantly being told by Snoke that he has too much of his father's heart in him, he relentlessly follows all orders given in an attempt to snuff it out for good. He even goes so far as to murder his father in cold blood, an act that "splits his spirit to the bone".

Analytical: Because of his tendency to overthink most things, Kylo Ren often takes extra time to digest information and visual media given to him. Upon capturing both Poe and Rey, he takes an extensive amount of time to psychoanalyze them to expose their vulnerabilities as he sees them in the Force, and dissects how best to approach them to get the information he needs. He also spends much of his time in the Force Bond attempting to access the nature by which it was formed, and how much they could do with it (rather than showing concern that he was suddenly linked to someone else).

Protective: Kylo Ren is a possessive individual. While this can be seen as a negative trait, it lends itself to a bit of nobility as far as people are concerned. When Kylo Ren spots something or someone he views as one of his own, he fiercely rises to protect it. He goes so far as to strike down the Supreme Leader and all of his guards when he attempts to force him to kill Rey, even after he'd nearly killed her himself on Starkiller Base. He is quick to throw himself in the line of fire for things he cares about.

Noteworthy Negative Characteristics:
Short-tempered: Kylo Ren is often shown destroying several pieces of equipment on his Star Destroyer in fits of rage. He is quick to lose control and raise his voice or snap when involved in arguments with General Hux and even Supreme Leader Snoke.

Murderous: Kylo Ren has killed thousands of people as a soldier of the First Order. He doesn't typically take sadistic pleasure in it, but he rarely ever has enough empathy to consider NOT killing someone. If its the fastest and easiest solution, he will take it. Lor San Tekka was meant to have the map to Luke Skywalker, but instead of taking him in for questioning (as he does with several prisoners much later) he murders him for daring to bring up his family in front of him.

Hyper-focused: Luke Skywalker appears on the battlefield of Crait, and Kylo Ren halts the entire assault to turn every gun on him in an attempt to kill him. When somehow he lives through it all, Kylo Ren orders the assault to halt so that he can fight him alone, and the Resistence uses that time to escape the First Order -- who had managed to pin them in a bunker. Luke Skywalker turns out to be a projection in the Force and was never really there -- thus, Kylo Ren ultimately loses because of his need to murder his uncle.

Character Fears: Loss of control, being alone, failure, intimacy, commitment

Powers/Abilities:
FORCE SENSITIVE: In Star Wars canon, the Force is described as an energy that connects all things in the universe. Some people, like Kylo Ren, are born with the ability to feel it more keenly than others. As a descendant of Anakin Skywalker, Kylo Ren's Force sensitivity is extremely potent. With it he can move/stop objects, read minds, sense intent, and manipulate its flow in other people (ie: Force Choking).

PILOT: Raised by Han Solo, one of the first things Kylo Ren was taught to do was fly. He is an extremely skilled starship fighter pilot, and even has his own fighter: a heavily-modified TIE Interceptor, known as the TIE Silencer.

KNIGHT OF REN: Apprenticing under both Luke Skywalker and Supreme Leader Snoke, Kylo Ren is highly trained in several forms of combat, though he is most proficient at hand-to-hand and lightsaber combat.

RAGE: Kylo Ren's weaknesses lie in focus, and his inability to contain his emotions when they run high. He can be forced into a retreat by breaking his focus or by insulting him. When heavily injured or blinded by rage, the Dark Side will consume him, and he will enter a berserking state that will use the last of most of his energy in an attempt to achieve a win.

Personal Item: Lightsaber (Crossguard, red, fractured crystal)
